PURCHASED FOR TOTAL RENOVATIONS IN 2021

explore the transformation

Renovating the entire boat

Boat purchased: June 2021

In June 2021, we acquired Blue Planet—a vessel boasting strong foundations and a freshly renovated exterior, complete with new rigging. Despite these positive aspects, the interior had suffered from neglect, water damage, outdated elements, and a lack of functionality. Undeterred, we immediately commenced a comprehensive renovation to breathe new life into the vessel.

Renovations: July 2021-December 2022

The renovation project involved a complete overhaul of the interior, encompassing the removal of all existing elements. We replaced both electrical and plumbing systems, installed brand-new flooring, cabinets, and seating, and meticulously sanded and painted every surface from floor to ceiling.

Adding finishing touches: Jan 2023

The comprehensive transformation reached its culmination at the close of 2023. This involved incorporating modern fixtures, lively accents, and chic decor, resulting in a space imbued with contemporary charm. The end result positions it as the quintessential sailing vessel for experiencing the beauty of Hawai’i.

We bought a boat! Introducing Blue Planet

In June 2021, we purchased a Blue Planet, a 1978 Islander Freeport 41 moored in Honolulu, Hawaii! We knew the moment we stepped on board that this was the perfect boat to begin chasing our dream to sail away! However, before setting sail, there was plenty of work to be done! Scroll below to see all the work that was done!

DEMO BEGINS JULY 2021

Demo Begins: Gutting a 1978 Islander Freeport

In the not-so-distant past, we harbored ambitious dreams of a grand transformation for our 1978 Islander Freeport 41. With plans to gut her entirely, we brought in a skilled contractor for some of the demo and carpentry work, yet our hands were firmly on deck, ready to dive into the project ourselves. As the days turned into weeks, we witnessed a breathtaking evolution, where our beloved vessel emerged from the depths of renovation, ready to sail once more. This video captures the remarkable journey of our Islander Freeport’s rebirth, a testament to vision, teamwork, and unwavering determination that turns challenges into triumphs.

Demo Continues: Galley Transformation

In the episode of our boat renovation series, we were thrilled to share the progress we had made on the galley onboard Blue Planet! We had installed brand-new cabinets, a sleek countertop, and appliances that fit our tiny home lifestyle perfectly. Moreover, we had finally completed the flooring, and it looked amazing. We were so close to finishing the renovation, and we couldn’t wait to share the final product with you. Stay tuned for more updates on our journey to sail away and start our new life on the water!
